A Landscape Planned Around Your Property

A landscape project is more than adding plants. Sun, slope, soil, existing trees, watering and the way your family uses the space all shape what will work and what will struggle.

This page covers whole-yard and partial-yard landscape projects. When a project includes xeriscaping, turf, drainage, irrigation, hardscaping or lighting, we plan those pieces together and you can read more about each one on its own page.

Common Project Goals

  • Replace a tired or patchy yard with a finished, cared-for look
  • Add planting beds, borders and shrubs along the house or fence
  • Create usable space for kids, pets or entertaining
  • Reduce thirsty lawn in areas that are hard to water
  • Fix a layout that sends water toward the house or leaves soggy spots
  • Prepare a new-build yard that came with bare soil

What A Landscape Project Can Include

Every project is scoped individually. These are the pieces most residential projects draw from.

Assessment And Layout

We walk the property with you and talk through goals, budget and constraints before suggesting a layout.

  • Sun and shade by area
  • Slope and where water flows
  • Existing trees, beds and lawn worth keeping
  • Access for equipment and materials

Site Preparation

Good preparation is what lets plants establish and surfaces stay put.

  • Removing unwanted turf, rock or plants
  • Grading for positive flow away from the home
  • Soil preparation in planting areas
  • Edging between lawn, beds and rock

Planting And Ground Cover

Plant choices are based on exposure, water needs and the look you want.

  • Shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses
  • Wood mulch or rock mulch by area
  • Bed shaping and borders
  • Placement that leaves room for mature size

Related Elements

Many yards combine several services. We plan them as one project so they work together.

  • Water-wise areas through xeriscaping
  • Sod or artificial turf for lawn areas
  • Drainage and irrigation changes
  • Patios, walkways and lighting

Not Part Of This Service

  • Licensed landscape architecture or engineered plans
  • Structural retaining walls that require engineering
  • Sewer, foundation or indoor plumbing work

What To Discuss Before Work Begins

  1. 1

    Your Goals And Budget

Tell us what you want the yard to do and the range you are comfortable with. A budget range helps us suggest a realistic scope.

  2. 2

    Site Visit

We look at sun, slope, soil, drainage, access and anything that must stay, such as mature trees.

  3. 3

    Scope And Estimate

You receive a written scope that lists what is included, materials and any items still to be decided.

  4. 4

    HOA And Utility Checks

If your HOA requires design approval, submit the plan before work starts. Underground utilities are located before digging.

  5. 5

    Installation

Work follows the agreed order: removal, grading, soil prep, hardscape or irrigation, then planting and mulch.

  6. 6

    Walkthrough And Care Notes

We review the finished work with you and explain watering and care for new plants while they establish.

What Affects The Project Cost And Schedule

We do not publish set prices because every yard is different. These are the factors that move a landscape estimate.

Size And Scope
Square footage, number of beds and how many services are combined.
Removal And Grading
Existing turf, rock or debris that must come out, and how much soil needs to move.
Materials
Plant sizes, mulch type, rock, edging and any hardscape or lighting.
Access
Narrow side yards or fenced backyards can add labor time.
Season
Planting and installation windows are affected by weather and ground conditions.

Local Planning Notes

  • Yards across the Denver Metro area range from heavy clay to sandy fill on newer builds, so soil preparation is assessed property by property.
  • Many neighborhoods have HOA landscape guidelines. Check yours early so the design does not need to change after approval.
  • Watering rules and rebate programs depend on your water provider. Check with your provider before planning around them.

Landscape Design & Installation Questions

Do I Need A Full Design Before You Can Give An Estimate?

No. Many homeowners start with goals, photos and a rough idea of budget. We help shape the layout during the site visit and estimate.

Can You Work On Just Part Of My Yard?

Yes. Front yards, side yards and single backyard areas are common projects. We can also plan in phases if you want to spread the work out.

Will You Help With My HOA Approval?

We can provide the scope and material details your HOA typically asks for. The approval itself comes from your HOA, so we recommend applying before work is scheduled.

How Is Landscape Design Different From Xeriscaping?

Landscape design covers the whole project. Xeriscaping is one approach within it, focused on water-wise plants, soil, mulch and irrigation. Many projects include both.

What Happens After The Project Is Finished?

New plants need regular watering while they establish. We explain what to expect for your plants and, if you want ongoing help, talk through seasonal care options.
